HBO’s “Game of Thrones” already has some of the most passionate fans in television. Now it has its own beer.

The network has partnered with Brewery Ommegang, a craft beer maker in Cooperstown, N.Y., to create a series of beers inspired by the popular television series.

The first beer, Iron Throne Blonde Ale, was released just in time for the March 31 premiere of the third season of “Game of Thrones.”

HBO Global Licensing explained the partnership this way: “The collaboration between Ommegang and HBO is focused on developing truly unique beers that directly tie into themes, characters and nuances of the series of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and surrounding kingdoms.”

Iron Throne Blonde Ale is available on draft and in 750ml bottles for the suggested retail price of $8.50 per bottle. HBO and its brewing partner have plans for a “Game of Thrones”-inspired beer in the fall and two additional beers in subsequent seasons.

Paul Schrodt of Esquire described the beer as “extremely easy-drinking: malty, vaguely fruity, a little spicy, but nothing overpowering. It goes down especially smooth for being 6.5% [alcohol by volume].”

Whitney Matheson of USA Today said: “If you were to bottle HBO’s Game of Thrones, what would it taste like? I’d guess it would be something dark and intense. However, the folks at Brewery Ommegang disagreed.” She compared it to Chimay Triple.

Jill Pantozzi of themarysue.com said: “While it might not be something I’d drink all the time, I enjoyed the beer. It was of a great quality and paired perfectly with a Game of Thrones Season 2 re-watch. And I’m sure, will pair just as well with
