“Rux Revival”

Friday, April 19, 2013 – 7:30pm (Rux Revue)
Saturday, April 20, 2013 – 7:30pm (Homeostasis)
An evening with the Carl Hancock Rux Band promising to capture the revival experience through spectacle and electrifying sound.

April 19th–Carl Hancock Rux returns to his artistic roots and reunites his spoken word/performance band in Rux Revival. Through Rux’s signature “dizzying oral artistry,” Rux Revival will reflect on his musical journey from the autobiographic work of his critically acclaimed debut cd, RUX REVUE/Sony Music, to performances exploring more global themes in his follow-up albums APOTHECARY RX/Giant Step (selected by the French press in 2008 in the publication “Great Black Music”– an exhaustive tribute of 110 albums including Billie Holiday’s “Lady Sings The Blues” and the works of Jazz artists Oliver Nelson, Max Roach, John Coltrane, Otis Redding, Ike & Tina Turner, Curtis Mayfield, George Clinton, Fela Kuti, Jimi Hendrix, and Mos Def) and GOOD BREAD ALLEY/Thirsty Ear Music (described by critics as “an album filled with pain, poison, and healing energy propelled by an incredibly layered, textured musical collage”. ) Rux reunites with original band members Helga Davis, Marcelle Davies-Lashley, Jason DiMatteo, Fred Cash and special guest KimberlyNichole RockBallerina. Special guests include Manchild & Monsta Black and multi-media by video artist Onome Ekeh.

April 20th–Rux dedicates a full evening to his highly anticipated latest project, the jazz inspired HOMEOSTASIS cd (described as influenced by the free jazz improvisational movement and new electronic possibilities of Charles Mingus and Paul Bley’s Logic of Chance, combined with a return to 1970s poetic jazz; the title itself paying tribute to the dark dreamlike imagery of the late artist Emilio Cruz, the art of orchestration and the personal political interplay of figurative fantasy). This event features the Burnt Sugar Arkestra and special guests Martha Redbone and Nona Hendryx.
